Basic Fact Goal - Students will fluently add and subtract within 20 Addition Strategies - - The children used the number relationships of 0 more than a
number, 1 more than a number, and 2 more than a number. For example if a child
knows that 2 more than 7 is 9, then he knows 7+2=9. - It
is important that students can recall double facts because they are
used to help learn other facts. For example if a child knows that 4+4=8
that helps them with the near doubles fact of 4+5. When working on doubles +1 facts have your child double the
smaller number and then add one to that sum. - Counting on is another strategy.
The child says the
larger number and counts on. For example 4+7, your child should say “seven” and
then count on “8, 9, 10, 11”.
